Wallabies head coach Les Kiss has backed rookie Test playmaker Declan Meredith to steer the team against the All Blacks in Sydney this week, while Harry McLaughlin-Phillips could make his Test debut off the bench.
McLaughlin-Phillips, 22, led the Western Force to a Super AUS title and has earned a place in the matchday 23 ahead of last week’s starter, Ben Donaldson, who was a hero of last month’s win over South Africa. Meredith is just three Tests into his Wallabies career. He guided the team to wins over Japan and Italy after losing to France in his debut.
Kiss has also reshaped the pack and the bench. Star loosehead prop Angus Bell moves to an impact role, and former All Black Aidan Ross is promoted to the starting side.
Backline and bench changes
Isaac Henry replaces the injured Len Ikitau and will link with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii in the midfield. Harry Potter moves onto the left wing, and Filipo Daugunu enters the matchday 23 at the end of the bench.
Josh Canham has returned to fitness and joins the bench. He is named alongside Carlo Tizzano and Kalani Thomas, who replace Nick Champion de Crespigny and Tate McDermott, respectively.
Kiss looks ahead
Kiss said the Wallabies gained a clear picture from last weekend about where they need to improve.
“We got a clear picture last weekend of where we need to be better,” Kiss said. “We’ve said all along we’ll continue to work hard and grow our game, and the squad has been impressive in the way they have prepared this week.”
He also pointed to the wider occasion. “This Saturday will be a great occasion with the Wallaroos and Sevens teams also playing in our own backyard,” he said.
Kiss added that the match carries extra meaning. “Playing our final Test on home soil for 2026 is a huge motivator, and we’re determined to put out a performance all Australians can be proud of.”
