Canada beat England 31-22 in the WXV Global Series, handing the Red Roses their second straight defeat for the first time in a decade.
Maddie Feaunti gave England a promising start in Ottawa, scoring a try in the opening 10 minutes that Zoe Harrison converted.
However, England could not avenge last week’s 24-21 loss in Toronto, which ended their four-year unbeaten run.
England Briefly Take the Lead
England overturned a half-time deficit and briefly led 17-12 after the break. Amy Cokayne was among the try scorers. She had missed three home matches last month with a calf injury before returning against Canada last week.
Canada soon reclaimed the advantage and extended its lead to 31-17. Captain Sophie de Goede completed a hat-trick as the hosts pulled clear.
Late Consolation Not Enough
Emma Sing crossed for England in the game’s final minutes to reduce the deficit, but it was too little, too late.
De Goede finished with three successful conversions, while Harrison kicked the match’s only penalty goal in the 42nd minute.
England close out their WXV Global Series campaign against the United States in New Jersey on Friday.
